“Jon came to me one day and said he wanted to take this hymn and turn it into an anthem. I thought it would never work because I could only hear it in a slower tempo, which is the way many churches choose to play this song. Never the less, I wrote the opening eight bar phrase and presented it to the band as a launching point.  We were all coming at the song from different angles but somehow we liked the general direction.  We recorded that version to a mini disc player and individually kept listening to it.  That’s when I grew to really appreciate the uniqueness of each individual's contribution to the band.  Nate’s drum part still knocks me out because I never would have thought of that groove over the chorus. Jon’s vocal anthem on “my salvation” lyric gives me chills every time we play this song live.” - Jared
