Formed in 2007, after individually playing together in a variety of different settings, this band quickly gelled – becoming fast friends who enjoy making music together. Of course, it comes through in the music, both live and “in the studio,” where each member’s musical background plays off the others’, creating a sound that’s both familiar and fresh.

Perhaps that’s because their backgrounds are as varied as the musical styles they cover. Both Jared and Jon come from conservative Christian homes. Which meant for Jon that rock and heavy metal wasn’t allowed, unless of course he decided to sneak a listen at the local library. In contrast, Rob was free to listen to, and play, anything he wanted to – from the heavy metal of Iron Maiden and UFO to alternative rock of U2 and R.E.M..

Still, the unifying factor for each was that, as their faith in Christ deepened, they began experiencing conflicted feelings about the music they loved to listen to – especially in light of the Christian subculture’s feelings about much of it.  It’s from these seeds of discontent and wrestling that Mission was born.
