“I came up with this arrangement when my wife (she plays oboe) and I used to play together in church. We played it as a duet with more swing and less funk, but it became a regular of ours. The band came up with the sort of James Brown version the night before a conference and practiced it acoustically in a green room. Nate was just banging sticks against a table. We had never played it live or practiced it with our amps on before we debuted it to our audience. Jon told them how it only seemed appropriate that a song written by a former slave trader be put in the style of an African American funk singer." - Jared
